Game 3 Black – VS – Green
If two teams are evenly matched this season these are the teams.
Thought we’d see the pullovers tonight but neither team would put them on. Tonight both goalies had their full share of the action.
First Period
From the drop of the puck it looked like Black was going to have their way but, Larry Ecker playing goal for Green had other ideas. Black took and held the zone, while Green’s clearing attempts couldn’t get by the D. Every shot was blocked and covered. A mid-period line change caused some confusion on the bench and Black took the first penalty of the game to many men. Green took full advantage and the power play was clicking. (4:02) Jeff Herr was on fire turning away every puck, but Black was pinned deep, Green was pushing the play. George McKenzie played the puck out of the corner, John Prisciandaro was there so McKenzie spun and passed behind the net to Tom Nikkila, Nikkila from behind net to Pat Grady, Grady’s shot made it 1-0 Green. Black kept up the attack and Ecker kept the puck out of the net. 1-0 Green at the end of 1
Second Period
All goalies again. Both teams were getting chances and nothing went in. Herr, Ecker that was story. Herr cleared every puck and kept the play fast, Ecker held every shot opting for the face-off. There must have been something in the air as Green got called for to many men giving Black their first power play. Black pulled out all the stops. Dan Baljet and Dan Murphy both on the ice, Ecker had everything under control still opting for the stoppage of play over the rebound. The power play looked good but nothing on the board. Then a rare rebound but it was picked up by (XXX) Mulcahey (0:25) Mulcahey takes it end to end and slide s pact Herr. 2 – 0 Green
Third Period
Finally a break for Black, (6:28) Murphy starts the play passing to Kenji (The Emperor) Fujita, Fujita carried puck through center ice into the zone Fujita stayed to right pulling Ecker over, Fujita pass to Chuck Taormina was perfect and Black was on the board. 2 – 1 Green. Black kept the pressure on and at (5:34) drew the second penalty. Green’s D was up to the challenge nothing got threw. (2:16) Another power play for Black and again Green kept them off the board.
