Game 3 Black vs. Blue
Black and Blue, back and forth.
1st
Goalie –VS- Goalie. Nothing went in the net, as both goalies Jeff Herr (Black) and Mike Bohr (Blue) held the line and kept everything that came through out. This was a fast period, not many whistles, and lots of changing on the fly. Black got a break when Phil Honkanen was called for tripping with (0.58) on the clock. Blue held on with Bohr stopping several shots and only getting rest at the buzzer. 0-0 at the end of 1.
2nd.
With over a minute left on the power play Black took control keeping Blue pinned in deep. Bohr was up to the task facing and stopping first place Black’s efforts. Blue tried to clear to the right, but John Prisciandaro was there, and when they went to left, Bob Smith kept it in. Dan Murphy’s passed from the corner to Marty Schmitt. Schmitt’s shot looked like it would find a home in the net, but it was in Bohr’s glove. At (6:48), Schmitt gets called for a hook giving Blue their turn on the power play. Black killed 0:56 seconds and even got a shorthanded rush, but Bohr sent the rebound to the corner, and Blue’s back check paid off as Craig Eaton (Joe: FIX THE SHEET) (editor’s note: I added the assist to the stats) came out of the corner with the puck and passed to “Zamboni Phil” Honkanen. Phil hit Ted Bishop at center ice sending him in all alone. Herr’s glove was a millisecond short of the save, Teddy 1, Black 0. (1:49) Again it was Bishop, this time from Wyatt Gee, and again in all alone, this time going 5 hole, Teddy 2, Black 0. (Lou said he taught him how to do that). Blue was not finished yet, as Kevin Gualdoni took the pass from Phil Blain, carried up the right side with Eaton all alone on the left calling loud for the pass. Herr, with no defense back, came out to play the shot. Gualdoni looked like he was going to make the pass, but with a move that fooled everyone in building, faked the pass to Eaton, Herr bit on the fake, and Gualdoni was left with nothing but net. WOW! WOW! (Take that, NHL network!). 3-0 Blue at end of 2.
3rd.
Blue’s plan was to shut it down, Black’s plan was score four.
Black, playing like a team that was undefeated for 8 straight, kept their game plan intact and played on. Their only problem was Bohr. It did matter what came at him he made it look routine, directing shots to the corner, slapping rebounds aside. He had a three goal lead and he was not giving it back. At (3:05) Dan Baljet was cutting through the slot, and it looked like this was it. Bohr was far to right, the whole left side of the net was open, Baljet was ready, the puck was on the way, and then Blain put the hook on him. Baljet tried pushing it away, but the refs made the calls, hooking and holding the stick. No power play for either team. That was it. All over. Let’s go have a beer.
