Game 1 Blue –vs- (will they ever win?) White
1st
White came out the gates fast, but it was Blue scoring first on break out pass from Jim Scully to Ted Bishop, Bishop carried the puck up the right side drawing the defense over and put the puck on Craig Eaton’s stick, Jeff Zyrek playing the shot didn’t have a chance 1 - 0 Blue. Mid period, Keith Omand got the bench to their feet with a great shot that Mike Bohr just got enough of and heard from what I am told one of the goalie’s favorite sounds, the puck to post ping. (1:46) White finally answered, Capt. Tony Chiavre dug the puck out the corner, made beautiful pass to Omand, Omand faked the shot, passed the puck to Jeff Kuehn, Kuehn’s shot was on the money and past Bohr. 1 - 1 at the end of the 1st.
2nd
Again White was out the block early but Bohr was up to the challenge until late in the period (1:13). Scott Dietzel’s pass to Rob Stempien, Stempien, to Omand who would not be denied a second time, putting the puck in the net. 2 - 1 White. Blue put up a great effort but Zyrek was on his game, he stopped everything they threw at him and at the end of the 2nd, 2 - 1 White.
3rd
Defense, Defense, Defense. Well that was the plan. Until (7:52) again the Bishop, Eaton show. Bishop to Eaton and it was in the net all tied up. Weather report: White Out. A 45 second Blizzard hit and hit hard. (7:28) White was all over the offensive zone, it was hard to see the puck but Kuehn saw it through the storm and put the puck in the left side 3 - 2 White. (7:07) Off the faceoff Omand won the puck back to Barry Dubetz. Dubetz to Chiavre who carried the puck into zone and set up Omand for the shot, 4 - 2 White (That was one shift 3 goals). With just over (3:00) on the clock. Every player on the White bench could feel the win. Blue came with everything they had Zyrek held tough not letting anything by. Blue pulled the Goalie with over a minute forty on the clock and kept the pedal to metal, then a break for White when Dubetz got good handle on the puck, Kevin Gualdoni took off to center taking the pass from Dubetz and sealed the game with a long shot into the empty net. White Wins!!!!!!!!
