Game 2: Gold vs Blue
1st Period: Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold! Passing, shooting, and following up on the rebounds paying off big. (1) Greg Pozzo from Milo Mattox and Ron Maceachern. This was just a beautiful play. Mike Bohr did everything a goalie could do, but the boys of Gold had him moving all over the blue paint. Blue’s D was not to be found, and the puck was over the line. 1 – 0 Gold. (2) Pozzo from Rob Solnik. Gold had several chances and it looked like Blue was going to clear the zone, but Rob Solnik had other plans, as he not only held the zone but made a beautiful pass to Pozzo who buried it, again no chance for Bohr, 2 – 0 Gold. (3) Tom Brown from Paul Mansky, and Lew Bishop. Gold’s second line was not to be denied. Bishop’s break out pass sent Mansky down the ice and in all alone. You might think that was it, but no, Mike Bohr was up to the challenge and handed the Doc a stone, but Tom Brown followed up and slapped the rebound home for a 3 – 0 Gold lead. Blue created some pressure of their own with flurry late in the period, but Billy Iannello (TBAPGITL) held tough, shutting them down. Gold’s turn again. (4) Maceachern from Pozzo and Mattox as the boys weren’t finished yet. Mattox pulled the puck off the left boards and got it to Pozzo, the pass to Maceachern was tape to tape, 4 zip Gold. Bohr went for the new stick, probably due to the shot count (30 – 35 if we were keeping that statistic).
2nd Period. In the 2nd, Blue began to show some life as the defense showed up and Bohr wasn’t hanging on the clothes line. Dan Murphy took a pass from Jim Scully and squeezed it by Billy Iannello (TBAPGITL). 4 – 1 Gold, but , maybe we finally have a game?
3rd Period. DÉJÀ VU! It looked just like the 1st: Gold, Gold, Gold! (5) Maceachern from Pozzo and Mattox under three minutes in, and again it's Mattox’s heads up play paying off for Gold, as what should have been a clear ended up as a perfect pass to Pozzo. Pozzo carried the puck across the zone, turned back, a dip here, a doodle there and over to Maceachern who was looking at a wide open net. 5 – 1 Gold. (6) Dan Ficorelli from Joe Grazioli. There was some work in this one as Grazoli held the puck then got it to Ficorelli, nothing but net. 6 – 1 Gold. Looking at Blue’s bench you would have thought it was earlier in the game, but, you could also tell they still wanted this one. (7) Solnik from Pozzo. This goal was just all hard work. Blue couldn’t clear and Gold couldn’t score, Bohr was all over the front of the net, 4, 5, 6, rebounds later Pozzo managed to tip the puck out to Solnik who let a ripping snap shot off Bohr’s stick into the top of the net. 7 – 1 Gold. It was all over, run out the clock, Jack. Some of you might have read the Emperor’s statement about the season being all over, and we should concede to Black, but maybe Gold is sending a message: they want the President’s Trophy.
