White vs. Red
1st
White took control of the game right from the drop of the puck. Stempien won the draw back to Bradford, he got the puck to Prisciandaro and he put it deep in the zone. From there, it was a race and scrum in the corner, then Gualdoni got the puck in front to Stempien who shot it through the crowd. Billy (TBGITL) didn’t even see it. (9:28) (1-0) (It almost looked like White knew what they were doing!) About 2 minutes later, Jackovich with a sweet move, got away, passed the puck to Kuehn who passed to team captain Tony Chaivre who put the puck past Billy (TBGITL) at 7:57. Things cooled off a bit until 2:45 when Keith Omand took a pass from Mike Foley and Ed Frank and fired it past Balmas. Joe got a piece of it, but not enough to keep it out. White regrouped and 27 seconds later Gualdoni took the pass up the boards from the Huckster, using the D and Prisciandaro as a screen, put the puck just inside the left post closing the 1st with a score of 3-1 White.
2nd
Red came out firing on all cylinders with Maceachern taking a pass from Blain and Frank and put a laser shot past Balmas at 8:54. White didn’t wait long to retaliate, taking the zone and cycling down low, Stempien got the puck to Johnson (sub) on the point, Johnson saw Gualdoni low off the right post and made a perfect pass and Gualdoni slammed it home. (7:57). Then Tony Chaivre took matters into his own hands and unassisted, put the puck behind Billy (TBGITL) with just 36 seconds left in the 2nd to make it 5-2 White.
3rd
This would prove to be Red’s period, as it seemed, White took their foot off the gas. Omand started early, taking a pass from Mike Foley and putting the puck past Balmas at 9:13. Balmas looked towards the bench but team captain Tony Chaivre showing confidence in the net minder, left him in (they don’t have a backup goalie anyway). It was Omand’s turn again as he ripped a shot from just inside the blue line and picked up the hat trick at the 6:00 mark with Mike Foley and Ron Maceachern again getting the assists. It still wasn’t over. With 1:38 to go White loses count and puts 6 players on the ice. Wouldn’t you know it, the refs aren’t blind and they can count. White puts a man in the Fox Box and Red makes them pay 10 seconds into the penalty, as Choinard (sub) scores from Honkanen and Maceachern on a shot through the crowd that Balmas never saw. The 5-5 score felt like a win for Red and big disappointment for White. You won’t want to miss this Sunday as there are 3 more periods to go in this home-and-home contest.
